Frequently Asked Questions


What information do I need to have ready to enroll in the payment plan?

  1. The name, address, and email address of the person responsible for making the payments.
  2. Account information of the person responsible for payment:
    • If paying by automatic bank payments, you will need the bank name, telephone number, account number, and the bank routing number. Most of this information is located on your check.
    • If paying by credit/debit card, you will need the credit card number and expiration date.

What payment options do I have?

  1. Automatic Bank Payment (ACH)
    ACH payments are those payments you have authorized Nelnet to process directly with your financial institution. It is simply a bank-to-bank transfer of funds that you have preapproved for your expenses at Parkland College. Payments may be made from either your checking or savings account. Payments are processed on the 5th of each month and will continue until the balance is paid in full.
  2. Credit Card Option
    Many payers have requested the option of charging their monthly tuition payment to their credit card. This enables you to take advantage of various bonus programs offered by your credit card company. If you elect to use this option, your monthly payment will be automatically charged to the credit card you designate. Payments will be charged on the 5th of each month until the balance is paid in full.

Is there a fee for using a credit/debit card to make payments?
Yes. An additional 2.7% service fee will be charged on credit/debit card payments. This fee will be added to your payment amount.

When and what time will the funds be withdrawn from my bank account?

Nelnet specifies the date each payment will occur, but it is your financial institution that determines the time of day the payment is debited. Nelnet recommends you check with your financial institution to determine how far in advance funds should be deposited into your account to ensure the automatic payment clears. If a payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment will be attempted the following business day.

How will I be notified of my payment information?
Once your agreement is posted to the payment system, you will receive a confirmation notification of your payment amount by email or letter. Payments will be processed until the total balance is paid in full. The notification has important information you must have to log on to My FACTS Account. The notification also serves as a reminder that a $25 per semester nonrefundable Nelnet Enrollment Fee will be processed from the account indicated on the agreement.

Can I pay by phone with Nelnet?
In accordance with the Terms & Conditions of your Nelnet agreement, payments are processed electronically. Nelnet does not accept payments by phone.

Who do I contact to update my personal and/or banking information?
Call Nelnet at 800/609-8056 to make any changes to your address, phone, or banking information.

Who do I contact if I have questions about my agreement account?
Contact Nelnet at 800/609-8056 or view your agreement online through MyPaymentPlan Account.
To access MyPaymentPlan Account, follow the instructions located on the Nelnet confirmation letter or email.

I think my tuition balance is wrong. Who do I contact about my tuition balance or financial aid?
Call the Parkland College Business Office at 217/351-2233.

What is the Nelnet Access Code?
To help protect your privacy, Nelnet asks the person responsible for the payments to create an access code. If you call Nelnet inquiring about your Nelnet agreement or inquire online through MyPaymentPlan Account, you will be required to verify your Nelnet Access Code. If you do not create an access code on your Nelnet agreement, one will be randomly assigned to you. Your Nelnet Access Code will be identified on your Nelnet Confirmation Letter. Please remember to keep a copy of your confirmation letter.

What happens if I pay my tuition in full with Nelnet and later add classes?
Full payments through Nelnet does NOT put you on a payment plan.  If you pay in full through Nelnet and later add classes, you will need to pay the balance at the time in which the classes are added or ALL of your classes will be dropped.

INFORMATION ON MISSED PAYMENTS
If an automatic bank payment or credit card payment is missed, a $30 Nelnet Missed Payment Fee will be automatically assessed to your account. You will be notified by Nelnet of the missed payment via mail or email.
