Library Laptop Borrowing Policy
Currently registered Parkland College students in good standing may borrow laptops from the Parkland Library Service Desk. Internet access is provided through the wireless network. The Library laptops are available for checkout at the Service Desk in accordance with the following polices:

Laptops are circulated on a first-come, first-serve basis. Laptops may not be reserved in advance.

Laptops must be checked out in person, and the borrower’s current Parkland College ID AND Driver’s License or State ID must be presented.
TERMS and CONDITIONS
- The loan period is 3 hours, unless it is less than 3 hours before the Library closes.
- Laptops must be returned 30 minutes before closing. Laptops will stop circulating 1 hour before closing.
- Laptops may be used in any area within the Library and must not leave the Library.
- Once a laptop is checked out to a patron, the laptop becomes the responsibility of that patron. The laptop should not be left unattended.
- Overdue fines are $5.00 per hour or any portion thereof.
- Laptops that are not returned within 2 hours of the loan period may be treated as stolen property. Parkland College will take any legal action to recover stolen laptops.
- Failure to pay overdue fines, repairs, replacement costs or any other charges may result in holding the release of the borrower’s registration or transcript. Parkland College may take other action necessary in an effort to recover damages arising from the usage of the laptop.
- Parkland shall be free to pursue any other remedies available to it and shall be entitled to recover any collection fees.
- Borrower is responsible for all costs associated with damage to the laptop and accessories during the checkout period.
- Borrower is responsible for replacement costs if the laptop is stolen or lost during the checkout period.
- Personal software may not be loaded onto the laptop. Documents must be saved to a portable storage device; once a laptop is shut down all information is lost.
- Laptops must be used in accordance with Parkland College computer usage policies.
- Laptop checkout record does not constitute a “confidential library record.”
- All laptop borrowers will be required to sign the liability statement and provide a current phone number each time they check out a laptop.
